Taking Care of Your Children’s Teeth Over the Summer
School is out and it is likely a time when our children are off to camp, or playing sports, or pursuing all sorts of other outdoor activities while the weather’s good. But just because school is out, it doesn’t mean our children should stop learning. One thing to focus on over the summer holidays is maintaining healthy oral habits that will help them keep their teeth strong and healthy for years to come.
Oftentimes, children don’t look forward to seeing their dentists, and may approach their appointments with a sense of dread or fear. They expect to sit back uncomfortably and have the dentist clean their teeth and take care of any problems. At SmartSmile Dentistry, we take a different approach and encourage children to be a part of the process, taking an active role in their own oral heath.
Our Smart Start program for children includes:
- Education on the parts of a child’s mouth that can collect bacteria
- Teach children proper brushing and flossing techniques
- Encourage healthy nutrition
- Introduce them to all the equipment in the dental office
- Allow them to take a prize home from our Treasure Chest upon the completion of their first visit
- Positively reinforce good dental habits on succeeding visits
This is all done in an effort to make learning about oral health a priority and allow children to have fun while doing it. When waiting for their appointment in our office, children can take advantage of our play area where they can take advantage of toys, books and videos that encourage good oral health.
We at the Smile Dental Centre make it a priority to keep our office a fun place to learn so that children will have fun learning when they visit, because at the end of the day, if they enjoy their experience at the dentist, they’ll more than likely take good care of their teeth.
